Hi.

Yes, the rope dart can go against any weapon.

However the rope dart was really never intended to "go against" any particular weapon, in fact the whole concept behind the rope dart is that it doesn't have to.  The idea behind it is to strike and injure or even kill your opponent before they had a chance to use their weapon on you.

It is a distance weapon putting anywhere from12 to 20 (or even more) feet between you and your opponent.  This is out of range of any non-projectile weapon so you remain a relatively safe distance away from your opponent while using it.

Also, most practitioners of this weapon believe that it was used as a secondary weapon.  It is easy to conceal and carry around with you in a battle field as a backup should your primary weapon break or become lost in some way.  It may have also been used for special purposes such as attacking a horseman that would otherwise be very difficult to kill.

But anyway, it's not like you would battle with someone using a rope dart, there are no blocks in its usage so it was an offensive weapon only.  You may get one shot off at your opponent with it, maybe two if you’re very skilled but if you were to miss there would be nothing you could do except run away or accept death.
