  1. I agree with the first answer, yes........

  2. There is currently no successful anti-ballistic missile system in place, we are just as vulnerable to nuclear strikes as we were 30 years ago.

  3. Yes, Russian war heads can reach the USA and vice versa. Even

advanced patriot systems would have a difficult job trying to intercept

a Russian ICBM with multiple warheads.I think our defense systems

are much better than Russia's.I'm sure there would be casualties

if there were a mid air nuclear collision.Let's all pray that never happens. There are no winners in a nuclear war!

  4. Supposedly they could.  They wouldn't though because ours can reach them easily as well.   Yes the radiation would still spread if a nuclear missile was detonated in mid air.  You would also get an interesting phenomenon where it would likely cause a disruptive electromagentic field which would by in large destroy most of our electrical systems including power, computers, cars, etc.  Either way it would not be a good thing but like I said, if they tried it they'd get it back ten fold and they know it

  5. Yes, Russian missiles can hit anywhere in the US.

Patriot is not even a player for long range ballistic missile defense, it is used for theater and tactical systems.  Intercontinental systems are flying too fast for Patriot to engage.

The GBIs (ground based interceptors) are much larger, silo based missiles with much more range capability than Patriot.  However, there aren't very many GBIs available and they are only deployed in Alaska and California.  They are positioned to intercept a small number of launches from N Korea.

The system is not capable of handling a major attack from Russia.  There simply aren't enough missiles to engage and the Russian missiles would mostly be coming over the polar region, so missiles in Alaska and California aren't in position to protect the central or eastern US.

  6. The Patriot system is for battlefield (tactical) defense.  It never was designed to hit ICBMs.  Look up the Safeguard System.

The system being deployed right now is in Alaska and might stop a few missiles.   Look up Ground-Based Midcourse Defense System.   This might be the system they are talking about putting in Poland also as that is between the USA and Iran when you measure on a Great Circle Route.

However if the Russians launch one ICBM they are probably going to launch a lot and some will get through for sure.

If you hit an incoming ICBM all that will happen is the warhead will be damaged so it can not go off.   Then all you have to deal with is some  radioactive material coming down in a relatively small area,  such as when the Columbia space shuttle broke apart.

  7. yes.... 35 years ago and  maybe still today...and yes the radiation would spread

  8. they should invent a high power laser mount on satellite which can fire many times at once, now this will do it

but wait about 30 more years

  9. Yep.

  10. Yes. Patriot systems have no guarantee of success, and Russia has tens of thousands of missiles. Russian ICBMs and submarine systems could successfully strike any city in the US. And vice versa, of course.

  11. Oh yea, no doubt. But of course with M.A.D. it makes no difference. Even the russians aren't that crazy

  12. Right where you are standing anywhere in the USA

  13. Maybe not a direct hit.  The star wars system has been up and running and tested for many years now.  We may be affected by the radiation but most of the blast will occur outside the orbit of Earth, thus saving millions of lives.

I wouldn't worry about it too much.  We need not fear the Russians, we need to fear the NWO, EU, and UN.

  14.     it will never get that close.now if [and that is a big if] obama is elected. he will call them and talk to them.im sure it will be from his shelter.he will ask why did you do that.we need a sit down.and talk this out.dahhhhh.

  15. Their missiles guidance systems are not as accurate as ours but with a nuke a mile or two will not make that much diff.

    Veteran - USAF

  16. Does it matter?

If they can and try - we're all dead.

If they can't - no problem.

  17. Of course.

  18.   In an all out missile attack by the Russians, it is conceivable that some would get through.  It is also true that many more of ours would commence to totally destroy Russia. US missiles would be launched from all over the globe.  Submarines, carrier fleets, silos, B-1 bombers, and places we don't even know about.

There is no way either country could win in a missile attack from either side.

  19. I'm not so sure. After the collapse of the Soviet Union the Russians decided to use their SS-20 ICBMs as launch vehicles to lift satellites into orbit from Russian soil, instead of using the Soyuz rockets from the Balkanor Cosmodrome which was now located in the independent nation of Kazakhstan. All six of them splashed down in the Sea of Japan or the Northern Pacific. None achieved orbit or  got anywhere near U.S. soil.
