  1. It depends on your state's laws regarding recording another person without that person's consent.  (The laws are probably different from the law on recording a phone conversation.)

  2. i know from experence that they take notes from a IEP meeting, but I never had one recorded.before.they do take notes. and send it to the parents.from the IEP meeting.Ive had two children in special Ed classes myself.Ive never heard of it being recorded Ive sat though alot of IEP meeting first Ive heard.of recorded.

  3. I think they can record meetings without your consent. BUT, if they do, you can request a copy of it because it is considered part of your childs educational file and according to FERPA laws, parents have a right to a copy of ALL your childs educational files.

You can also record the meetings without their consent. But they will put up a fight.

All you have to do is take recorder to meeting and if they put up a fuss, put the microphone in their face and say 'will you repeat your statement that you will not allow me to record this meeting'?

Watch them back off. They will not lie on tape.

  4. You can check with your State Department of Education to find out.

  5. my advice would ask the person that requested the iep meetings..my daughter has 2 iep meetings  with my consent every year,or unless they feel is need for more..my daughter's never had a unconcented iep meeting,so if we're you i would make some important calls and meetings with the person(s)that do the iep evaulations with your child

as soon as possible..if they don't give you any info i would go to their superviser, keep demanding info.good luck!

  6. If a school is recording a meeting as a matter of record they must notify you ahead of time, but they do not have to have your consent. Ditto if you want to record a meeting. YOu must notify the school district ahead of time, but they cannot deny you to record the meeting. Anything they take as a matter of record they must provide you a copy with at your request.

    www.wrightslaw.com is a great resource.

  7. You should receive copies of all meetings concerning your child's IEP whether you attended or not. You should get in touch with the school again and request copies of every meeting.
