Can gas operated scooters be manly? I can't afford a car, I'm 16 and looking for a job, could a scooter be a manly form of transportation? I also have a girlfriend, would it be easy to ride the scooter with her on the back?

  1. I ride a Suzuki AN6502K Burgman scooter. It looks like a goldwing in design and hauls great due to the 650cc's My brother has 2 GSXR 1000's and he likes to take mine out for a ride because he says he likes the quality of the ride and the handling. Not saying it handles like a sport bike but I sure don't feel unmanly riding it every day. And since the seat is designed for 2 your gf would fit just fine on it. I would be happy to give her a ride sometime.

  2. No, they can't, but since you're only 16, you could get away with it.

  3. It's not what you ride, but the rider which makes any vehicle "Manly".  No matter what you ride, ride with pride. It may not be the fastest, most decked out, newest. thing around, but it is yours, you worked for it, paid for it, and it is your wheels.  .Sure beats walking!  You do not try to show it off, or tell others how great it is,  It is your first step to your dream wheels.  And yes, a decent scooter can carry two.  And likely the best ride you can get at your age.

    Tomcotexas.

  4. ya right...YOU have a GF.

  5. who cares........... its transport.. its cheap to run... it gets you where you want to go...

    & they can be fun...

  6. lol, no :)

    get a real bike.

  7. no

  8. No, they are an assembly of mechanical parts, you are the manly part of the equation. You do not need to rely on a selection of metals, plastics and rubber to be manly – despite the overcompensation that does go on among some drivers and riders.

Make sure that both of you wear helmets and gloves – remember shorts and dresses are begging for road rash. (Wearing a dress while wearing a scooter probably isn't manly.)

  9. Depends on which city you're in.

  10. Sure but I would still recommend a cycle. For one the market is bigger and there is a huge used cycle market where there is a smaller scooter market. Look at a cruiser cycle 250 to 500cc. Smaller is better to learn but smaller won't do a very good job of carrying a passenger.

If you get a medium size cycle you will save a lot of money as eventually you will have to trade up from a 250cc and that cost a bundle these days. I would recommend Honda's VLX 600 V twin or Yam ahas 650 Star V twin. Both are available used.

Enjoy, use your head, buy a helmet. A 400cc Suzuki Burgmann scooter costs more than either aforementioned cycles. You pick it.

  11. Get a Vespa- chicks dig 'em. I don't know what it is but whenever I pull up to some 145 cubic inch knucklehead they all seem to divert their attentions onto me, virtually to the point of embarrassment. I guess its' the whole Roman Cafe, Gigolo  thing. Buy one of those suckers and stock up on condoms, that's all I can say.

  12. yes

  13. No !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. Yes they are getting quite a following

  15. There is nothing manly about a scooter.  Save your money until you can afford a motorcycle.

  16. I know a senior fire fighter who rides a Honda Helix with side car.  He bought it from a doctor who wanted a Silver Wing because his wife was tired of the sidecar and wanted to ride on the back.

    To answer your question:  Yes.

Until Honda introduced the 65cc motorcycle to America, the coolest guys on the block rode Cushman Eagles.

Scooters were the main form of transportation in Italy after WW2. We're just not used to seeing them in the US... yet.

BTW, what some of these experts fail to mention is that in most states 16 year-old riders are restricted to 250cc, and smaller, engines.
