Generally Search engines crawl text links and index their pages if the website is designed with meta tag robot with index and follow setting. My question is that can search engines crawl image links and index their pages when I have not put any text for its 'alt' attribute?. Do search engines ignore image links completely?.

  1. Hello Dear,

Right, Search Engines crawl text links and index their page.

Make effective use of alt attributes. When you like to retain your site design which is full of images make sure those images have proper use of alt tags and link to the relevant page. So that google can associate those alt text the target page.

The reason behind this is that search engines spiders are not able to 'read' your image and therefore cannot index it without a text equivalent.

  2. Just think of it - if you don't give any clues to the search engine on what the file is about, how will the search engine index it, and as what? Yes, you got the answer!
