I enjoy the Morning Star Brands, but find the sodium content to be a bit on the high side!

I love beans & rice.

Are there any other products or foods that you have found that fill the need for the "meat cravings"?

  1. IF you are going to abandon meat as your primary protein source, it is necessary to read up on beans, etc....you MUST have intake of the 8 essential amino acids every day, other wise, no protein can be used....different beans have different amino acids...you must learn the mixes necessary to sustain life. This is not something to play around with. There are many books out there with all the info you need. Please do not take someone else's word for something so dangerous as malnutrition for that is what you will get if you do not know what you are doing using a meat-free diet. goldwing

  2. Tofu dishes are good if you know how to prepare them.

You can add nuts to your diet for protein... and as for the cravings.... this will explain what to do about that: http://newfreebooks.com Go to the Leap Over Web Clutter section on "reduce Cravings"

You can also find tofu preparations on that same website.

  3. I am a meat lover, but I love veggies too. I don't think I would enjoy a meat free meal but my hubby has no problem. I like peanut butter. I buy my own jar and take a teaspoon of it every night. I have no idea why I crave it but I do..  My hubby and I both like beans and rice too. I cook sausage with ours (there's the meat again!). Poppy

  4. some nuts.

  5. Of course, whole grains including rice with any legume is a high protein combination.  If you're not vegan, low fat yogurt, cottage cheese, and milk can round out your protein needs along with egss or egg substitute. Of course peanut butter and whole nuts are high in protein.   If you want the meaty texture, jumbo portabello mushrooms have a meaty texture and flavor that I find very satisfying. A grilled portabello on a bun with the fixings is an acceptable substitute for a hamburger, in my opinion. You can find many recipes on line for using these.

I've settled on a pescatarian lifestyle, with most of my protein coming from fish and seafood.

  6. I find myself craving less and less meat. And the vegetables from our garden seems to be what I need . Swiss chard soup with chicken broth and zucchini is great.  Steamed beets, turnips, and potatoes. I still love a good cut of meat but the veggies are drawing me right now. I guess because it is harvest time. I find that most of the store bought prepared dinners are always high in sodium and that is not good for us seniors I don't think.

  7. beans and rice are good..with a steak on the side..sorry i'm a meatatarian..lol

  8. You do better to get rid of processed food and all heavy starches.  I like the beans but you can keep the rice.  I'm working on the get rid of all things white diet.  Sure miss my sugar. . .

  9. There are none. Even Tofu supposedly prepared correctly is disgusting, along with soy meat substitutes.

  10. MUSHROOMS a vegetarians meat,http://www.vegetarian-nutrition.info/upd...

I eat eggs and fish but no red meats. I'm healthy senior who can swim and walk for an hour no trouble. To much salt [sodium] is not good hardens the arteries. I don't eat all healthy all the time but take all in moderation.

  11. Do  you consider fish meat I like salmon & trout. I try to stay away from red meat to
