Can separating military members recieve unemployment from the state of their choice?

I was told as long as you have an honerable discharge, transitioning military can do this?? Please reply?!

  1. It will depend on the state and what their rules are for unemployment. Sorry for the vague answer, but it really depends upon the state. If you have a state in mind, google their unemployment website and call them to find out.  


  2. When i got out in 2001 it had to be the state you were from. I was from Chicago so I got mine from Illinois.

    My husband was from Erie so he got his from Pennsylvania, that was in 2005.

    We both lived in California at the time.

  3. You need to be a resident of that State to draw the benefits. Normally, when discharged, you are sent back to the State you enlisted in. You would need to contact whatever State you plan on going to in order to find out. You would still be under the Unemployment rules for that State as far as looking for work.

  5. This may have changed, but when I was in, you could only go to the state wherin you currently reside (wherever you are stationed), or whatever state is your permanent residence, i.e. where you enlisted from.
