  1. This is for the United States securities.

    Yes, have the firm you bought the stock from do what is called a "cancel - rebill" from you margin account to you cash account.   Make sure you have 100% of the purchase price in your account.

    You could have the firm move the stock to your cash account, if you have sufficient equity in the margin account, if there is not sufficient equity you will have to deposit enough money or securities to increase your equity.

    If you are looking to set up a DVP item, then you should outside arrange made and once there done, notify you broker to deliver versus a payment amount need to pull this equity from the margin account,

    Not sure what you mean by "saving" yourself, but to each their own


  2. If you have a margin account, when you buy a stock your cash is used first.  You only use margin (or borrowing money) when you buy more stock than your money will pay for.

    If you do buy on margin (or borrowed  money) there are only two ways to change it.   Deposit more cash to cover the purchase.  Or sell securities which will increase your cash position.
