A friend of mine slept with some guy and later found out he was a cousin. She was adopted and had no clue who her family was until she went to his family Reunion as his girl friend. Her birth mother went crazy saying she was her daughter. Long story short it is her mother and and he is her cousin and she is pregnant. She don't want to get a abortion. her and the cousin are no longer together but she is having a baby.

  1. the closer related the parents, the higher chances of the babies being deformed. that being said, I went to school with a guy who's parents are cousins and he is HOT!!! whew. they actually have 3 gorgeous boys. so yeah, keep the baby.

  2. if she doesn't want an abortion then she alone is responsible for any birth defects and suffering of the future child. Its her choice AND her responsibility

  3. Now that is some bad luck!

  4. Oh my god, I would be mortified if that happened to me!  I don't see why she can't keep the baby tho, it is part of her.

  5. Of course she can keep her baby.

Are you worried that something will be wrong with the baby because they're related?  Please tell her to chill out. Cousins have only a SLIGHTLY increased risk of birth defects.

No European country prohibits marriage between first cousins. It is also legal throughout Canada and Mexico to marry your cousin. The U.S. is the only western country with cousin marriage restrictions.

  6. If its hers, she can keep it. Do you think the state wants it or something?

  7. Only her doctor will be able to tell if the two are so closely related that the baby will be deformed or have a lot of health problems.  The closer two people are related the worse it is.

  8. Well the obvious answer is to see a specialist. Obviously no one on Yahoo Answers is going to know. I've heard cousins can reproduce without too much damage, but I would see a doctor if it was me!

  9. Well, i was in that situation BUT i didn't have s*x with him but made out with him more then 30 times. But the bad part is that i knew he was my cousin! but i would keep the baby if i was her.

  10. Of course she can keep it. As far as health concerns go, you're actually fairly safe with 2 cousins. Your chances of having defects are still somewhat higher than they would be from 2 unrelated people. Tell your friend to ask her grandparents what types of health problems they've had, and what their parents and siblings had. If you don't know anything about genetics or genetic diseases, then go to a specialist and run your odds. As the baby is already conceived, I would just sit it out.

  11. She should speak to a doctor.  And also, it will be important to establish the precise relationship between the two.  Are they first cousins, or a more distant form of cousin?

Under the circumstances, though, I don't think there would be any reason to not keep the baby.  Relationships between first cousins are discouraged because it increases the possibility of birth defects, but now that the baby has been conceived, there's no requirement to terminate the pregnancy.  There's a good chance that the baby will be perfectly healthy.

  12. YES THERE SHOULD NOT BE A PROBLEM

talk to a doctor just to make sure if they are first cousins

  13. Weird. Well, if it is infact her cousins baby like you are saying, then of course she can still have the baby! Who is going to take it away? Just hopefully the baby isn't born with 2 heads and 8 thumbs or something crazy like that!

  14. im pretty sure she can keep the baby although she might not want to tell everybody about the circumstances with the babys daddy

  15. CAN SHE KEEP HER BABY??? You answered that yourself if you push it out it is yours lol

  16. that is real weird she should proberly just have the baby and then give it to a nice family but not keep it cos thats just a bit odd....

  17. Just tell her to make sure to tell her doctors of this finding. It is very important because extra testing will be needed. There are risks involved for the child but she will be able to keep her baby.

  18. wow....but sister and our cousin have baby together.....something like that happen but not excatly...anyway there baby is three and he is fine.....if he dont wanna help then take child support and of course she can keep her baby she carried it

  19. That is the worst luck ever...and extremely weird.

  20. Sounds a little far fetched, but having a baby with your cousin only slightly increases your chances of having birth defects (like by 3-5%) above the normal population.  She can keep the baby.  Here's some info:

    http://www.cousincouples.com/?page=facts

"Fears of cousins who marry having children with birth defects are exaggerated. Simply marrying within your own race increases the odds of birth defects. Marrying within your own town further increases your chances. Cousin couples have only a slightly higher incidence of birth defects than non-related couples."

"Children of non-related couples have a 2-3% risk of birth defects, as opposed to first cousins having a 4-6% risk. Genetic counseling is available for those couples that may be at a special risk for birth defects (e.g. You have a defect that runs in your family) In plain terms first cousins have at a 94 percent + chance of having healthy children. Check the links section for more information on genetic counselors. The National Society of Genetic Counselors estimated the increased risk for first cousins is between 1.7 to 2.8 percent, or about the same a any woman over 40 years of age."

  21. Don't see why she couldn't...but I understand why she wouldn't.  It can be a very traumatic situation.  Wow....

  22. why not?

  23. If shes adopted there is no blood relation and so the baby should not have any of those weird interfamily defect stuff.
