Can she still get pregnant?

My girlfriend and I always use protection but still from time to time we have minor scares. Last night we had one. What are the chances she could still get pregnant even though today she's come onto her period?

  1. Probably not likely she is pregnant dont worry.

Is she on the pill? If she is, even if the condom did split or whatever, it shouldnt matter as she shouldn't ovulate at any point during her 'cycle'.

If she isn't on the pill, maybe you should discuss it with her. It means that should there be an accident mid cycle, she would be much less likely to become pregnant, providing she takes the pills right.

To the answer above, abortion is NOT form of contraceptive.

If you are still worried she may be pregnant, talk to her about the morning after pill, though its only effective up to 72 hours after s*x and the sooner she takes it the more reliable it is.

By the time she would know she was pregnant and booked for an abortion (if it was used as an alternative to contraception like the answer above suggested) the baby would already have a heartbeat and feelings.

Here's something I thought about when deciding whether to have s*x and what I would do if I had an accident... it doesn't sound like either of you have children already. How would you feel if she did get pregnant but aborted it, then found out a couple of years later she couldn't have kids?

I know your question was simple and to the point, sorry for an answer that doesnt just give a "Likely" or "Not likely" answer, but if these scares are happening often it is worth thinking about the things I have mentioned in this answer.

Its good that you are using contraception, nice to see there are still responsible couples out there!

  2. If she is on her period today none.

but you really should be more careful and look into other contraceptives.

  3. if she's came on her period then chances are she's not pregnant. although stranger things have happened! it is still possible to be pregnant even if you have your periods....some women carry on having them for the full 9 months. but seeing as this is very very rare i'd place money on her not being pregnant.

as well as using condoms (im assuming thats your chosen form of contraception) why not discuss her going onto the pill too?? that way the chances are way slim.

    good luck!

  4. very very slim.

Just in case, i'd advise the morning after pill. It is free on NHS or you can buy over the counter at pharmacy - pretty expensive though.

  5. Don't listen to the people who say none.  It is HIGHLY UNLIKELY she will get pregnant but the human body is an amazing thing.  I know someone who ovulates in the week immediately before her period.  The only way to be 100% sure she won't get pregnant is to abstain from s*x.  Obviously that's no fun so I'd agree with the other poster and go for the belt and braces of pill/implant and condoms in the future.  As to whether or not she needs to get the morning after pill this time you need to consider how you would feel if she did get pregnant.  If you wouldn't mind having a baby or she'd be able (practically and ethically) to have an abortion then it would be ok to take this risk.

In any case it sounds like you need some good advice from a medical professional.  If you're in the UK look up Family Planning in the Yellow pages for free impartial advice.

  6. Very slim - but the period could still mean she ovulated recently, as it could be just the lining of the womb with no egg.

Get the morning after pill - valid for 72 hours.

And get some proper contraception sorted - if you're using jonnies, get her on the pill too. If she's on the pill and keeps missing them, look into the implant or injection.

Or else one day it won't just be a scare!

  7. if shes having a period now and you did it last night. theres no chance of a pregnancy this month.

the sperm can only last 5 days in her and well....her ovalation date is ages off.

:) glad to hear you are using something x*x

  8. there's always a chance, but if she got her period then there is no longer an egg there to fertilize.

  9. no chance this month of becoming pregnant, maybe she should go on the pill so if you have accidents you wont have to worry
