Can snakes have seizures?

lol, i know this is kinda a random question but me and my cousin were joking around about it today and somehow we got on the topic of snakes and seizures.

Soo... can they?

  1. Yes, actually, they can.  They're quite serious as well and can be a symptom of Inclusion Body Disease Virus.  Seizures in snakes most commonly manifest in the form of losing consciousness, which is not to be confused with "playing dead" as some species, such as the hognosed snake, do occasionally.

    Edit:  Nice source, Argile!  Very interesting.  I'd forgotten the common name for IBDV entirely.  It has been about 15 years since I've worked in veterinary, though... *shrug*
