Can snooker cues be used on american pool (would it damage)?

i posted about this before but with a different question

i have a new snooker cue cost me 165 with a 9.5 mm tip

can i use it in american nine ball without damaging the cue or breaking the tip or creating defects

There's no reason that the cue would be damaged during normal play.  I know a guy who's played with a snooker cue for a long time on the bigger balls.
