  1. What country/countries did our family come from?

What occupation did they have before leaving the origin country?

Why did they decide to come here?

    When did they come here?

What did they do to establish themselves in this country?

Plus I'm sure you will come up with more questions based on their answers to these.

  2. The main key here is to ask questions which will help you know more about your family history. So you should begin by making a simple family tree with your name, your siblings' names, and then your parents... and then, by the help of your parents, you should go as far as possible in listing your grandparents, uncles, aunts, their children, etc. Make it as detailed as possible.

You can document some facts about your family afterwards. Ask your parents to tell you about your grandparents'' lives (jobs, hobbies, and anything of interest)... you can ask about how your grandparents met, whether they had any strong beliefs, and so forth... as you make note of these things, you are bound to pick up on some aspects which you want more details about, and so make up new questions as you go along. After you are done with your grandparents (and maybe your uncles and aunts), you can move on to your parents' grandparents: What did they do? At what age did they die? How did they die? What were they like (personality)? What did they like to do? What were their achievements... and so on... document as many details as you can about the name of the people on the family tree you initially created.
