  1. hey man just make sure u reconize who has the ball and reconize the play on what they are doin keep ur head up and try to break tackles the best u can just make sure u have fun thats what football is all about

  2. make sure 2 get angry and keep driving those feet.use ur hands and stay low... also do pushups and eat alot and thatll make u stronger...

  3. Keep your head up...nothing looks worse than a d-lineman having his head down while the RB goes right past him

  4. it all depends on where your are on the d-line.

as and end u wanna try to colapse the pocket on a pass, and get afte rthe rb if he somes your way.  don't spin or anything too fancy if your new to it, that'll get you put on your ***.  try the swim if anything, but even with that dont get up to high while doing it or you'll let him right back into your body.

at d-tackle you have a completely different job.  u don't wanna push the center in to much or you'll make a hole for a rb or qb to scramble through, just hit him and if a rb comes your way wrap him up.  but if its a pass you have to options:

1.if u can get ot the qb easilly then get to him even if u dont get the sack a hurry is a good thing.

    2. u can try to collapse the pocket from the inside, but with a mobile qb you'll need good lb's behind you.

and if you cant get to the qb at least jump up and try to swat it if he throws it your way.

that's about all the advice i got for a beginner. and just train hard, play harder, and have fun.  cuz if your not having fun you're not gunna do well

  5. as a fellow defensive lineman, I would say these things are most important to me.

Using my hands to get past the lineman easily, if i have to even mess with him

work on your explosiveness off the ball- this is my biggest weakness

Have good tackling techinque- this is very important. You shouldn't worry about stripping the ball, your just 10 for pete's sake. That comes later

  6. The biggest tip I can give you is to watch the ball.  As soon as the Center moves the ball, come at him like a ton of bricks.  And make sure you don't stand straight up out of your stance.  If you stay low and fire off of the ball, you've got the fundamentals needed to be successful on the defensive line.

  7. keep your head up and make the o line fall and get the QB

  8. tackle and then go for the fumble.  also do spins and stuff to get past them and read the offense

  9. Learn fast and early how to shake a blocker. Your job as a D-lineman is going to be to plug the gaps and let the Linebackers do their job. If you are lucky you can stop the run in the gap you blow up.

Once you learn to get off a block quickly and efficiently, you just might find yourself in the backfield with a handful of QB or RB!

  10. I'll give you 2 things that will stand out to your coaches.

    1. Use your hands -  On the snap of the ball, the first thing to engage should be your hands. If the OL gets to your body, you're done. You can't rip or swim if the OL is into your body.

    2. Don't get too deep in the backfield if you get good penetration -  If you beat the OL off the snap and you see the RB, don't run at him or chase him. He's faster than you. Take an angle flat down the line to take away his cutbacks and possibly beat him to a spot. Obviously if her runs AT you, tackle him.

These are 2 things that younger guys struggle to do. Your coaches will be impressed, trust me...

  11. Your goal every time is to break through the line. Remember the offensive line's blocking priorities:gap, on, over (goo). First, they will block their inside gap, or if nobody is there, they will block the man on them(nose or end), and finally if they don't have a man over, they will block the man over them(linebacker).

Off the snap, you should be concerned about moving your feet faster than the offensive lineman in front of you, you should try to get lower than him to blow through him, and practice your swim move to break a block.

If you're bigger than him, you can definetely try to blow him over, but I would recommend just trying to slip in through the gap.

  12. First of all - Supernova gives good advice so read his post. This is just a couple of pointers supporting it.

You should practice a bear crawl. This will strengthen the muscles in your legs and arms which will help you be faster off the ball and give you more pushing power to get by the O-line (Most of the time the O-line is bigger than the D-line so get used to going against someone larger than you are). You main advantage has got to be speed because once you get past the O-line you have to be able to catch either a QB or a RB. Here is what you should practice:

    1) Keep your head up. If you lower your head to hit the O-Line you can't see where the ball went. It also makes it easy for the OL to push you on to your stomach and keep you down and out of the way.

    2) Watch the Ball. I don't know if there will be any hard counts (where the QB says Hut, Hut, Hut) or silent counts(when the QB just taps the Center and the ball is hiked with no sound) these are designed to get you to jump off-sides gaining the offense 5 yards and often a 1st down as well. Teach yourself to move when the ball does and you won't be caught off guard.

    3) Memorize the shoes of the QB and the RBs. It might sound silly but when you are low and slamming into a guy that is probably bigger and stronger than you sometimes all you can see are feet.

    Hope this helps. Good luck!!
