    They can get a paper route.

  4. To be sure, amateur boxers are not paid a fee to fight, but some may receive "traveling expenses" which is a de facto payment.

  6. This is something new to me, this is the first ever for me to see amateurs being awarded cash for winning. This is from USABOXING.ORG. I think it's an effort to get more athletes involved in the sport.

    U.S. FUTURE STARS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP UPDATES

    (COLORADO SPRINGS, COLO.) – In an effort to reward the efforts of the future stars of amateur boxing, USA Boxing will be awarding the top two finishers at the upcoming U.S. Future Stars National Championship a financial bonus. The gold medalists will receive $1000 with silver medalists winning $500 in both the male and female divisions.

    The bonuses will supplement the athlete support given to the top finishers at the U.S. Olympic Team Trials for Boxing, held in Houston, Texas in August of 2007.  The U.S. Future Stars National Championship will showcase the rising stars within amateur boxing as over 200 male and female athletes convene at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, March 9-14.
