Can some body help me identify this species?

In English it would be Snail;

In French, well, you already have it at the photo site: Escargot

Sorry, don't know its origins.

The genus is definitely  Helix, but the species I don't know.

I'm not that familiar with terrestrial snails, but I'd guess it to be a white-lipped snail (Cepaea hortensis).

UPDATE:

Hmm, yes, probably more likely Helix pomatia.
