6x - 8 = 22

You need to move the -8 to the other side by adding 8 to both sides of the equation (that way, it doesn't affect the equation and also it gets rid of the -8 on the left)

6x - 8 + 8 = 22 + 8

6x = 30

To get x by itself, divide the WHOLE equation by 6 because 6 is multiplied by x (opposite of multiply is divide) and so, this gets rid of the 6 attached to the x:

x = 5

This is your answer.
