Can some one explain class B and C misdemeanors?

im 17 and live in illinois, i was arrested yesterday for petty theft (under 150$) from walmart..its my first offense EVER!!..in illinois i think 17 is an adult the police officer was saying ? well i spent a couple hours in jail and my dad posted 100 dollars bond..i have a court date in october..what should i expect? im a senior in high school and have actually been looking for a job. it was a HUGE mistake..hopefully it wont prevent me from reaching my goals?

It depends on your state, but a class B misdemeanor is worse than a class c misdemeanor.  For example, in Texas, being a minor in possession of alcohol (a class c misdemeanor) is not that bad.  Writing a bad check is worse (a class b).  In either case, they are only misdemeanors and not felonies which are life altering.  You will probably be fined and might have to perform community service.  You will probably get time served (meaning the time you spent in jail) and not much else.  This would be a good wake up call, it shouldn't hinder you from reaching any of your goals but if you ever want a security clearance or work for law enforcement you'll have to report it.
