  1. Even though I am a proponent of public transportation it does sound like a car might be a better option for you.

This might work - from the South Amboy Station of NJ Transit (which I believe is the closest to Parlin) take a New York (not Hoboken) bound train that stops at Secaucus Junction.  Transfer downstairs for a Main Line train to the Lyndhurst station.  Trip time is about 1 1/2 hours

You may have to change trains at Newark first for a New York bound train that stops at Secaucus Junction as some trains from South Amboy skip Secaucus.Junction  Check the time tables.

I don't know if that will get you close to your final destination in Lyndhurst but it does seem better than going from NJ to NY and then back into NJ (and doing the reverse later on in the day).

Try the Trip Planner feature on the NJ Transit Web site:

    http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.s...

Firs try using addresses in Parlin and Lyndhurst.  If that doesn't work try selecting "landmark" and put in South Amboy RR station for the "from" and Lyndhurst RR station for the "to"

You can also call NJ Transit 973-275-5555 for more details and possibly more options.

On this page you can view the current timetables:

    http://www.njtransit.com/sf/sf_servlet.s...

For South Amboy select North Jersey Coast line.  For Lyndhurst select Main Line/Bergen County Line.

    Good luck.
