  1. I can't see the photo cuz I have to sign in and I don't have an account =( But I think you should paint your room in light colours, that way it would give the illusion of a bigger room.  Also clear out all the stuff you don't need so it stays clean.  Thats all I can really think of as I can not see the pic....sorry.

  2. There's some wasted empty space in the corner you could put shelves there and clear off some of the stuff you have hanging on the walls.  The stuff on the walls looks interesting, but just adds to the cluttered feel.  You might try painting the walls a lighter orangey or yellowish shade.  The pictures look a little lavender, and that is a blue based color, which is supposed to be soothing, but can make a room appear dark and gloomy.  You also might work on getting a really strong lamp.  The windows let in some light, but you need more.  A good light can brighten up a room tremendously.  Last thing is you might just get a storage container or box, and all of the stuff you use everyday and keep out and around the room can go in that easily at the end of the day.  That will give you a lot more floorspace, and is really easy to get stuff out of in the morning.  Have fun!

  3. I think you have adequate space in your room, but you're not using it to its fullest advantage.  The walls are already light in color, so painting them isn't going to help you achieve the look you want.  (It'll freshen up the space, but you need help MORE with cleaning and organizing before you do anything with decor).

The best way to get a cleanter/brighter look is to cut the clutter.  (Take it from a former clutter bug).  If it's particularly difficult for you to part with things, get a cardboard box, and as you "streamline" your belongings, put what you're not using in the box.  Store the box somewhere besides your room, if you can.  If, in 6 months time, you haven't had to go to the box for anything, you'll be better able to part with what's in there.  (As in: throw it out).

Now, you don't have to sacrifice everything that's on your walls, but you should consolidate and polish it up.  For example, buy yourself a bulletin board or magnetic board.  Confine your pics and cutouts to ONLY that space.  Even if you have more than what will fit on it, you can change the pics off and on to suit yourself.  Another suggestion: don't tack posters to your walls; get an inexpensive poster frame or two, then swap out what's current to you vs. adding more to the room's interior.

There are certain things that you should be able to part with, depending on your personal use: there's a child's play chair in your space, a drum set, guitar, and a small reading chair.  In your closet, there's a Barbie head and a Strawberry Shortcake poster.  Can you live without these things?  Really THINK about what you reach for EVERYDAY, not what you have an emotional attachment to or use on occasion.

The only lighting sources I saw were from two small table lamps.  Even if you have overhead lighting (but especially if you don't), that's not adequate, and that could be why you feel like your space seems small and dark.  The two windows will let in a certain amount of natural lighting, but that doesn't cut it unless it's sunny outside.

    Now for some decor/organization suggestions:

Add some wall shelves to your closet.  You may need to use/buy boxes (label them) to store stuff that you need on occasion.  There's wall space in there, so take advantage!  Preserve your built-in for pretty display items, not storage.

You have a lot of desk/school supplies on your floor ... you have a computer desk ... but no computer on it.  I suggest either repurposing the desk, (add some drawer storage to underneath so you have a place to organize supplies), or get rid of it in favor of a student desk.

When you do get around to painting your room, I suggest painting the walls uniformly vs. having a border 'break' the space in the middle.  It'll help the space seem bigger and brighter in certain ways.  You may wish to paint your built-in cabinet the same as your trim to help freshen it up.

Angle your bed from the corner it's in.  It will help make the space feel more cozy and inviting ... and your mother should be pleased that it's off the wall.  (Note: you don't have to put your bed at a 45 degree angle; play around with what looks and feels right ... it may surprise you).

Get rid of the two small table lamps and see what you need.  Perhaps a larger table lamp (for when you move the night stand next to your angled bed) and a floor lamp for your reading corner.  P.S. Do you really read in your room?  If you do, do you really sit in the chair?  If not, get rid of it and make space for something you WILL need and use.  Maybe you can have a funky swag lamp or chandelier in that corner of the room and have 4 or 5 large floor pillows for sitting and hanging out.  When you're not using them, they will stack nicely or stand vertically against your wall.  (And look fabulous!)

The wall mirror you have is disproportionate; it needs to be bigger, but don't worry about that right away.

There's a LOT you can do with your space and a lot that needs to get done.  Try streamlining your belongings for starters and rearranging some furniture.  Live with it for a week and see how you like it.  Then take it step-by-step.

If/when you know what kind of style you like for yourself, let me know, and I can walk you through how to REALLY decorate your space once it's cleaned up.

You can make this happen ~

  4. You have WAY too much stuff!

1] apparently you have too many clothes - go thryu and get rid of too samll, too big, too ugly, or not your style - donate what is wearable, toss the rest

store out of season clothing in underbed containers

3] add some shoe racks to bottom of closet [ floor ]

4] use clear lidded bins for closet shelf for winter accessories [ hats, gloves, scarves ]; handbags stored with end out like books, and a bin for sommer accessories [ totes, towels, beach hats, sunglasses ]

5] use the rack on wall opposite hanging rods for other accessories - small bags, hats, necklaces, belts

6] buy clear plastic chest of drawers for bras, panties, socks, etc for back of closet [ measure first! ]

7] buy a dark and light dirty clothes basket or bag, and keep in closet!

8] take down all posters, paintings, etc. Put those that fit, into scrapbooks. Throw out what you can.

9] keep out artwork you really love, to hang up after room re-done.

10] go thru all toys [ stuffed animals ], books, music/DVDs, etc. Get rid of or donate some; keep only what you really like.

11] go thru all 'ornaments' on cabinet, chest, dresser, chair, tiny chair - get rid of some! [ at least half! ]

12] go thru pillows on bed - get rid of some, or cover some to match bedding colors

13] you could keep all DVDs, CDs, in cabinet; or school stuff

14] put bed up against windows, with a small table at either end, or the 'toy' chest, and wicker chest at either end

15] paint walls the lightest color of bedding

16] use the brights in beddingfor a border or line halfway up of blocks, circles, or vertical stripes

17] get sheers for windows, to match wall color; or get a valance to match bedding

18] put up a big mirror across from windows - much lighter!

19] put table or standing lamps in the  corners opposite windows

Send me a pic when you are done!!!

  5. It looks a little cluttered. Maybe if you get things off the wall and paint a scenic mural ,like jungle.town, city, farm, flower, theme it would look bigger . I put allot of my stuff in boxes in the closet, and label them. Have fun.

  6. Ok I am the same age and have the exact same problem I cant keep my room clean and it looks so small and it is the same size as my parents. First off pick up the floor get baskets to organize things in. To make your room look bigger take down the posters you can have a few and put the rest in a binder with pocket folders I has about a hundred and 2 posters seriously i keep them in one binder and then put them on a book shelf. Just get yourself organized and your room will look a lot bigger and cleaner.
