You just multiply five times three and five times 1/9

=15 5/9

another example to illustrate the principle

5(2 3/4)

five times two = 10

five times 3/4 = 15/4

which is 12/4 plus 3/4

or 3 3/4

ten plus three is 13

so the answer is 13 3/4

5x1/9=5/9

15 5/9 reduced

Break it up into two parts  5x3 = 15 and 5x 1/9 = 5/9
