Can some one help me write a letter to two children (family and family law)?

This question is for parents that have been there or someone in family law that knows the do's and do not's.

My friend has been trying to get contact with his sons and the court's have suggested he start by writing to them. He wrote one letter and hoped someone from the court's would come and help him but she has not bothered to.

This is the second letter, but he is stuck on what to write.

He is not allowed to write:

He loves them

misses them

about his other son / their brother

about the court case (obviously)

passed memories

their belongings he still has.

Not allowed to ask questions (this will apparently force them to write back)

This is getting a bit stupid now, what is he allowed to write?

I cant be much help, but I just wanted to say that sucks.

How stupid is it that he cant even tell them that he loves them, or talk about stuff they had done together!

Sounds like he has to keep his letters VERY non-committal.  He will just have to write about what he's been doing - day to day stuff that will get past the censor. Can he mention grandparents?  If so, what they are doing and have been doing.  Presumably, if they do write back in response to such an innocuous letter, he may be able to answer any questions in their letter to him if, say, they ask about their belongings/brother etc.  It sounds like it's very early days so he'll have to tread pretty carefully and probably the censorship will gradually get lifted as time goes on provided the kids aren't upset and they ask to write back.

He could write how much he means to him (not using love) and what he is doing now in his life and maybe things that he hopes they could do together someday (maybe adding in places they had gone in the past - to retrigger old memories) would the court know the places they used to go?  I'm sure his son still remembers and if drops little hints....just a thought.  I didn't know what to say I am speechless, but felt the need to try to come up with something!
