Private security has become an important aspect in protecting businesses and properties. Where do you see examples of private security? How effective do you feel the private security industry is in preventing crime and protecting communities?

Another example of private securities is what is called a "Gated Community".  A gated community is exactly what it says.  There is a security gate and a security guard at the entry point (or road) into a "neighborhood".  This neighborhood can consist of many different roads, many houses.  Having a security guard there supposedly keeps the crime rate down in that community.  Do I think they are effective?  They probably are effective against break-ins and stuff but they can also be a real pain.  Many gated communities have so many rules of their own (even what color you can paint your house) that some people don't think it's worth it.

Examples of private security are stores (which I don't think prevents much crime such as theft) and night security at a warehouse say. Most often, just having someone there deters people from vandalizing or burgling a place that is otherwise vacant.
