  1. First, glucose uptake occurs through the GLUT 4 channels in the liver, skeletal muscles and adipocytes controlled by insulin.

Once taken into these tissues, it is immediately phosphorylated by glucokinase or hexokinase into glucose-6-phosphate.

Glucose-6-phosphate is the primary precursor of many glycolytic pathway such Hexose-Monophosphate Shunt , Glycogenesis , gluconeogenesis and more.

For substrate level phosphorylation, two ATP is consumed and 4 ATP is produced with a total of two reduced NADH. Thus, the net product is 2 ATP and 2 reduced NADH.

The initial 6-carbon chain glucose is now cleaved into two pyruvate molecules which are converted into Acetyl-CoA.

Acetyl-CoA is then incorporated into the Kreb's Cycle for the production of ATP and all the reduced NADH produced from the preceding pathways are used to generate more ATP via oxidative phosphorylation

Note: Oopss...sorry i didnt know that your question is under botany but i assumed Kreb's Cycle applies to it too.
