Can somebody demostrate how to make psi to pascal, not the factor, i want to know where the factor comes from.

I know a psi-1.45x10^-4 Pa, and also know that a Pa-0.00689 Psi, but i want to know where this valors come from..I've been doing the analysis, i can't get it :(

I get stock on the sec^2 of the acceleration... please help me

  1. Take a value in p.s.i. and multiply it by 1550 (39.37^2 - the number of square inches in one square meter).  This will give you a pressure in pounds per square meter.

    Divide this value by 2.204  to get kg/m^2, then multiply by 9.8 to get N/m^2, or Pascals of pressure.

    So to go from p.s.i. to pascals, simply multiply the p.s.i. by  6894.757.  To go from pascals to p.s.i, divide by 6894.757.


  2. A Pascal is a Newton / m²

    A newton is a kg m /sec²

    A pascal is (kg m) /(m² sec²)

    So you take 1 lb / in² x 0.4536 kg/lb x 1 in² / 0.0254² m² to get

    703 kg / m²

    This gets tricky as we have to switch between kg mass and kg force and newtons.

  3. they experimented. They filled a container with a certain amount of atmosphere and made some measurements in PSI and Pascals, then changed the pressure and did it again. They compare the readings and through math figured out the conversions.

  4. 1 pound weight per square inch = 1 pound x 0.453 kg/pound x 9.81 N/kg weight; all divided by (1 inch x 0.0254m/inch)^2

    Just another unit conversion. I used g =the 9.81 m s^-2 togo from kg weight to N.

  5. The trouble you get into is that pound is a unit of force as is a Newton. When you try to think in terms of Kilograms you must realize that a Kilogram is a unit of mass and the force that a Kilogram exerts is determined by Newton's law (F=ma).

    This is a fundamental difference between the English and metric systems.
