  1. army national guard is like the army but!

national guard goes  to war and  goes around the States for help

like torandos damage or wild fire or something.

well theres a contract  so when you sign it it will say 4-6 years or 8 years if you want to stay that long how much do you get paid?? well it depends on your ranking yes your spouse can live will you

Good Luck and thank your for Serving Our Country!

  2. the national guard, is what they call the weekend warrior because you drill one weekend a month and 2 weeks a year, you usually enlist for 4-6 years, you stay home, you don liver on base, so you still have to find a regulay job, its like part time status

  3. The National Guard is a part-time commitment, so staying on base in not an option. There are some full-time positions with National Guard units, but they are few and you do not get to apply for them until after you are in and through training.

To get all the college benefits and the enlistment bonus, you will need to enlist for 6 years. You can enlist for 4 years, but you will not get the enlistment bonus or as AS MUCH college money, but still some. As an E-3 coming in off the street, you will make about $180 take home each drill weekend. During your training you will take home approximately $1,100 every two weeks and have full medical benefits. You will also receive an extra $250 a month for family seperation pay since your training would be more than 30 days.

Email me  through my profile on here about the Guard, I will answer any questions you may have and give you some insight on what it is really like(awesome).

  4. Ok, you have 2 choices for enlistment 3X5 which is 3 years of drills and 2 weeks a summer with possible deployments the other 5 years you will be in the IRR which means no drills or anything but if your really needed they can still deploy you, there is also 6X2, which is the same as 3X5 but more active duty. Your pay depends upon your rank if you go in as an E-1 you'll  get paid less then lets say as E-3, when you go through basic and AIT, you will get Active Duty pay just like full time army, but when you get back, the pay charts are different than full time army, you can google them and ask a recruiter what your rank would be when you go in. You don't live on base, besides during your Basic and AIT, or a deployment, other than that, you go back home and attend your drills and that, until your needed.

  5. you need to see a recruiter for one you don't live on base in the guard and the only time you do is when your deployed and no spouses in combat zones

  6. No, your spouse can't live with you when you are away at training.  You will be in training for about 6 - 9 months and then you will do one weekend a month and two weeks in the summer.   These days however, you can expect a one year tour in Iraq sometime in your first 3 - 4 years.

You military obligation is eight years but usually its 3 years active guard duty and 5 years standby reserve.  Keep in mind, however, that they are calling up standby reservists now to serve in Iraq.

  7. you wont be living on base,  you return to your hometown and just go to drill for your one weekend a month... money depends on what your rank and time in service is... good luck

  8. Six to eight years, but you only go to drills for one weekend a month and 2 weeks in the summer. It's a part time military job. You need to have a civilian job to support yourself. You don't live on base. You have to take care of your housing. If you join active duty army you get a lot more benefits!!! Typically the reason people join the national guard is to get free college.

  9. the national guard is the defender of the universe. when something really has to get done and the marines can't handle it, they call the national guard.

  10. The army national guard and the Air force national guard have similar missions... National guardsmens main goal and mission is within the State in which they live. If you are a california national guardsmen this means you live within california as a part time civilian and a part time soldier.... the mission for a national guardsmen lies under the state which means instead of taking orders from BUSH you take orders from the Govoner of your state which for me if i were not active duty would be Arnold "THE TERMINATOR" since im from california.... when not in war time the Govoner uses us as a resource to natural disasters such as fires, earthquakes, tornados and other things that can wipe out citys and need a higher power of help....Out of control riots which police forces cant handle... such as the Watts riots or the LA riots which national guardsmen were called to perform work police could not handle... calming down a thousand armed civilians.... also we help with border patrol missions.... when war time occurs such as the last 8 or 9 years we may be "Activated" which means the Governor at the request of the President hands us over his comand to the President and he becomes our primary commander who sends us and tells us what to do in the war. When activated all national guardsmen recieve active duty pay.... active duty benefits.... and promotion rate is much faster... most national guard love activation and request it.... there are diffrent types of national guard such as the active guard program... which means your a national guardsmen and are stationed on your home base however you work as if you are active duty on the daily instead of working one weekend out of the month like normal national guard... and yes... national guard is a form of reserve which means you only report to base one weekend out of every month and two weeks out of the year for a training and the rest of the time you will be a civilian working a civilian job.. however this is a contridiction becuase you are not a civilian as long as u are a national guardsmen so you are expected to carry yourself in a military manner and uphold your ARMY VALUES every day even if you dont wear the uniform everyday.... you are not paid active pay... you may get a couple hundred a month but i mean come on it isnt a full time job what do you expect. that is why most national guardsmen love to be activated and request it.... and if you arent activated you will not be able to live on base... if you are then you may qualify for it... you may be elegible for a military housing plan if you are planning on being active duty guard.... thats the best way. i know you said you kknow what it is.. but i just wanted to clarify it so you knew this isnt a full time active duty job like REGULAR ARMY offers... if you can sign the papers you might as well go active and get the medical, dental, housing, and the discounts on base
