Can somebody explain to me the rules of rugby?

I'm trying to get into rugby and stuff but i can't really understand its system: rugby union and rugby league. Also where can i watch rugby?

I'm trying to find out the same thing!! I have friends who play rugby in college...but I feel so lost when they start talking about it. I do have some friends from overseas though who could always manage to catch a game on tv...so I know its available. sorry I couldn't be more specific. luck!!

The key rules of Rugby are:

1) The ball cannot be thrown or knocked forward with the hands, chest or head, even accidently.

2) Players who are offside, in front of the ball carrier or kicker, may not make a play or enter into play from in front of the ball.

All the play must be behind the ball. When a player is tackled, you will see all his teammates retreat behind the ball. If a ball is kicked, the only teammates of the kicker who may play the ball are those who were behind the kicker when he kicked it, or were passed by the kicker as he followed his kick downfield.

Play is continuous. In other words, play does not stop when a player is tackled. The ball is released and the teams try to gain possession. The only time play is stopped is for a penalty or if the ball goes into touch (out of bounds).

Players score by crossing into the goal and touching the ball to the ground for a Try. Tries are converted with a kick through the uprights. A penalty kick through the uprights is another way to score. More rare is a drop-kick through the uprights for a score.

Review the rules on one of the sites people above have mentioned and then watch some Rugby videos on YouTube to get a feel for the game.
