Question:

Can somebody give me an opinion (eBay)?

Okay, so I've been bidding on this one thing on eBay for a few days. It started at 19.99, and now it's at 32.00 (me being the high bidder.)

I was thinking (since it's up for 3 more days) that I should just leave it until then (like, the last minute) and then bid the most (seeing as someone else will most likely bid again by then) and I'll end up winning, but I wont be paying as much as I would have if I'd kept fighting for the highest bidder?

I know my question is really confusing, but what do you think about that? Any other suggestions? Thanks

  1. That is called sniping and everyone does it. Rarely do people bid before the last 2 seconds any more.

  2. Here is what is happening: eBay uses this to promote higher bids. Since you've already bid on the item, it's eating at you. What if someone else outbids me, and I don't "win?" This is part of the deal. Think about it. You're not actually WINNING anyway. It's the SELLER that WINS!

Furthermore, you're probably considering upping your bid, right? Because you are allowing your own greed to work on you, you bid lower than you know it's worth, and hope no one outbids you so you can get "a bargain." (Don't take "greed" personally, it's something we all do.)

They know this, and it's a psychological effect that works to eBay's advantage. But they tell you the truth: whether you bid early, or bid late (sniping,) follow the one guideline, the most important one, that eBay gives you:

BID THE MAXIMUM AMOUNT YOU WOULD PAY FOR THE ITEM.

Period. End of story. You may not know the value of the item, but you know what you'd pay. But by bidding early, this allows it to work on you and inch your bid up, sometimes to more than an item is worth. Other bidders see the current bid, and it works on THEM too, they have the same desire to "win."

You can remove all this by bidding late in the auction, or possibly in the last minute. (Sniping.) This removes all this self-questioning and stress from your mind, and doesn't give a "price" that is used as a target by other bidders. Don't allow the auction format to work on your head. Just bid what you think it's worth, and leave it alone. If someone else " wins," you know they paid more than you thought it was worth, so there's no loss.

  3. Esnipe.com   decide how much you are willing to pay. It will bid for you at the last minute...
