Can somebody help me with my math homework?

I have to do a project for Geometry and I can't find anything on "The Sum of the First n Numbers". Can somebody please explain what that is?

The sum of any quantity of number is simply the result you get by adding them all together.

If you don't know the actual quantity of numbers, other than it is an unknown quantity, called n, then the first n numbers are:

1, 2, 3, 4, ....n

In other words, start at 1 and keep going until you get to n.  Because you start counting at 1, that will also be the first n numbers

e.g. The first three numbers go from 1 to 3.

The sum of the first n numbers is those numbers added together:

e.g. If n = 3 then,  1 + 2 + 3 = 6

If n = 4 then, 1 + 2 + 3 + 4 = 10
