Can somebody help me write a formal scholarship request letter?

I'm applying for a chemical engineering department scholarship and they are asking for a requesting letter of why I'm applying...I have no idea how to explain..can somebody please help?

  1. well, only you can actually say why it is that you're applying for the scholarship.  Do you have a rough draft of what you've written so far?
