Here is my problem:

I just started getting better with my game and currently just have a standard set bought off the rack at a retail store. I am 6'3"/6'4" but can only play a few times a year since I live in Wisconsin. I don't have a ton of time to play golf, but I really enjoy it, also I don't have a huge budget either.

I am trying to decide if I should get fitted (or how since the idea is very intimidating to me since I know I'm not that good yet) or just buy a couple extra clubs to aid me for now (lofted wedges and woods...still I wouldn't know where to find these). Please give me suggestions I've been on the internet for ages and cannot seem to find any good answers! please help!

  1. since your a beginner there's no real answer you'll find as you'll get better which iron suits you, what you need to is find a set of nice new clubs at a retail low price(like cobra fp's or nike ignite's, then go to a golf store talk to one of the employees and and have them give you the right extension of irons(which for you being 6-3/4 would be 11/4''-11/2''extension, and order from the manufacturer  whether its nike, callaway or whatever and have them extend the clubs it'll save you like 100 dollars. Trust me I bought stock ones and later got them extended the guy at the store said you can buy new clubs extended from a retailer instead of paying them 100 dollars. and wedges, drivers, 3 woods don't need to be extended and your putter should be 35-37 inches.

  2. id proboly go with some custom fits.. doesnt matter what kind...mostly callaway and nike work best for tall

  3. get fitted its the best thing you can do no matter what size you are remember if you think golf is awesome like myself then you'll be playing for many years just remember you can never win so enjoy.

  4. I know what you should do. Take your existing set of clubs and go to a retail golf shop or someone who custom fits clubs.

You will need longer shafts since a standard set is made for someone that is about 5'9" (you probably have to bend your knees and waist too much to reach the ball with your current set).

After you figure out the right shaft length, you need to have them adjust the "lie" of the clubs. The lie is the angle at which the club head extends from the shaft, allowing it to lie flat on the ground when you address the ball.

Im not sure how much each shaft will cost but it will probably be about 10 or 15 bucks each for all 8 irons and the lie adjustment will cost some extra plus alittle more for grips.

For under two hundred you should be able to adjust your clubs to fit your height. If your existing clubs are not that great then I would just special order a set of tall clubs for 500 or 600 bucks from an online retailer.

And dont worry if you arent that good yet, trust me, those golf shop guys have seen golfers that are 100 times worse than you. Just remember to adjust to a more upright posture when you are being fitted so you can get the right length shafts :)

  5. Get fit. At your height, you could probably make it with standard clubs, but it'll help you to get the right length, and more importantly, the right lie angle. If you're going to spend the money for new clubs, it's just a few dollars more to get them just right for you. And, no matter what your height is, any model club hits the same; find a club you like, that fits your budget, and then get it fit for you.

  6. Just because you are 6'4" doesn't mean you need longer clubs.  If your arms are in proportion to your body standard clubs will work just fine.  It doesn't matter how tall a golfer is, only the distance between their hands and the ground.  But getting fitted is always a good idea as your posture at address may dictate a change in the lie angle of our clubs.

  7. Tour Edge clubs are AWESOME and priced well!

  8. Depending on where you live in Wisconsin, you should be able to get to a larger city for stores.  I grew up in La Crosse.

Or talk to the local golf pro at your course.  They should be able to give you ideas, fit you, order something.
