Question:

Can somebody please tell me I'm not going crazy?

How accurate are pregnancy tests? I know they say that they are 99% accurate, but has anybody ever gotten a false positive? I took a test last night and it said I was pregnant, but I don't want to get my hopes up and then have it not be true. I'd be 5 1/2 weeks along, so I doubt that it could be false and I set up an appointment at the doctor's for this afternoon. I guess I'm just nervous because I've been trying to conceive for a while and somehow it doesn't seem like it could be true. If anybody has any advice or encouragement they'd like to offer that would be great. It seems so unreal that I'm scared to believe it.

  1. Congrats!! The HPT are accurate. If you had any sign of the pregnancy hormone in you then it would make the test a positive. There is no way that you would get a positive if you were not pregnant! Celebrate! Wish I could get a darn positive one of these days! ;)

  2. its impossible to get a false positive. impossible. there is obviously some hcg there, otherwise you wouldn't get a +. your body only produces hcg when you're pregnant.

  3. rarely every do you get a false positive.  if you're like me, you'll still take 2-3 more just to make sure.  I know with my first son, I took like 20 tests, all positive!  Good luck with it all and don't stress if you're not, it will happen when its supposed to happen.  My husband and I are now trying for baby #3, which I hope will be a girl( I've got 2 boys)

  4. Congrats!  You are pregnant!!  There is almost nothing you can do or take to cause a false positive.  The only exception I can think of is if you were on fertility treatments and triggered with an hcg shot.  That can give false positives for the first few days after it being administered.  After 10 days or so, even that would be out of your system.

Best of luck and have a Happy, Healthy Pregnancy!

  5. congrats... you are pregnant and certainly not going crazy. its rare to have false positive though they do happen but keep your fingers crossed and don`t forget to give us feedback. all the best dear.

  6. How exciting!!  Congrats!!!!  There is no reason to be scared hun!!  You are going to be a Mommy!!! It is very unlikely that it would be a false positive!!  I've heard of false negatives but not false positives!! I am so happy for you!! I hope that everything works out!!!!  I hope and pray I get my BFP this month!!! Good Luck and God Bless!!

  7. Congratulations! I know of one person who's had a false positive but they are super super rare. The same things happened to me, I couldn't believe it. But kids are a blessing. Good luck!
