It's a spin off of Laguna Beach. Lauren Conrad is a fashion student that left the OC for a new start in LA.  At first Lauren gets an apartment with Heidi Montag and everything is cool. The girls befriend Audrina who lives down the hall and Lauren gets an internship at Teen Vouge where she meets Whitney. Heidi starts dating sneaky snake Spencer and Lauren is introduced to his friend Brody Jenner. Lauren is liking Brody, but still has feelings for high school boyfriend Jason. Jason is a total flake and crack head.  At the end of season 1, Lauren has to make a choice go to Paris for Teen Vouge or hang out with Jason. Lauren chooses Jason.

Season 2 Heidi is spending more time with Spencer, Lauren feels rejected. Lauren also brakes up  with crack head Jason and starts hanging out with Brody more. Heidi thinks she's pregnant but she's not. Spencer says he wants to be with Heidi and wants her to move in. In the meantime knowing Lauren likes Brody, Spencer and Heidi hook Jen Bunny up with Brody. Lauren feels betrayed. Heidi says she didn't know anything about it. Lauren feels betrayed Heidi moves out Audrina moves in. Spencer propsoses to Heidi. Heidi gives Spencer an ultimatium they later break up.

Heidi and Lauren are still on the outs. Lauren runs into Spencer's sister Stephanie who cusses her out at a club. Little do they know that they have classes together at college. Steph and Lauren decide to be friends. Meanwhile Spencer goes to Heidis parents house and tries to get back with Heidi. Spence manages to weasle his way back to Heidi, but cheats on her and she's threw with him. Spencer who was once BFF with Brody is not pissed at him for speding time with Lauren. Lauren gets a second shot at Paris and she and Whitney take it. While in Paris Lauren learns that Brody is seeing someone else. Lauren is upset. Back from Paris Lauren's lease is about to run out on the apartment. Lauren's sneaky friend Lo says they should rent a house together. Lauren says what about Audrina...Lo isn't cool with Audrina moving in. Audrina also has a scuzzy boyfriend who is a jerk named Justin Bobby. Lo and Lauren talk about him bad infront and behind Audrina's back.

At the seasons end. Audrina was thinking about moving out. She tells Lauren that Lo is causing problems in the friendship. Heidi passes up a kick *** job to be with Spencer. Whitney and Lauren both quit teen vouge and get jobs at Smashbox.

Basically everyone is friends one second and then they get back together then break it off.  They are spoiled and rich and are always talking behind eachothers back.  They have no idea what the real world is like and they basically atr spoiled brats who have no hearts.
