Hi there! I'm going on an exchange to Germany to Uhingen, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany.

I would like you to tell me a little about this state and also about Stuttgart the capital of Baden. Uhingen is located just some kilometers away from this city.

Would you tell me all you know about it?

Thanks!

  1. What sort of information are you interested in? Can you be more specific? Are you in the army? asking you because you mentioned about an "exchange".

I'm from Stuttgart and Uhingen is about 40 km to the east towards Göppingen.

And Stuttgart is the capital of Baden-Württemberg, not just Baden.

  2. Uhingen s a small town bei Göppingen. It'll take about 40 minutes to get to Stuttgart.Stuttgart is the capital of Baden-Württemberg. About 590 000 people live in Stuttgart.

There is lots to do in Stuttgart.

You can visit the Mercedes Benz Museum or the Porsche Museum.

They have a nice zoo with botanical garden.

Go shopping in the Fußgängerzone.(pedestrian zone)

Go up in the TV tower.

There are so many things to see in Stuttgart. Here is a site with lots of info and pictures:http://www.stgt.com/stuttgart/homee.htm....

  3. From somebody who has lived in Tuebingen for 4 years...

    1) The area is very conservative. They have a strong tradition of Pietism there. Don't be surprised to run into devout Christians shoving "Jesus loves you"-pamphlets into your face or inviting you to Bible sessions. (Think Southern Baptists if you are from the USA.) The area also has a lot of muslims (migrant workers at the Mercedes and Porsche car factories south of Stuttgart), which are similarly conservative and devout.

    2) The Swabians themselves are known for being hardworking and taking great pride in building their own houses with picket fences and small flower gardens in front. Almost all building societies in Germany have their roots in this area. Which is causing a problem: Many small villages around Stuttgart have become nothing more than  satelite cities where people commute to sleep at night, the kids go to school and nothing interesting happens - ever.

    3) Swabians speak a very distinctive dialect that is characterised by the ending -le. An advertising slogan aimed at potential investors ran like this "Wir können alles ausser Hochdeutsch - We are cabable of everything but High Standard German". :-)

    4) Major tourist attractions in the area (apart from Stuttgart) are the Neckar river, the Swabian Alp and down south the Black Forest

  4. Uhingen is a town with 14,000 inh. and is in the district of Goeppingen, a city with 60,000 inh.. Goeppingen is pretty near (8 km). There you can go shopping, visit museums, ect. Even visit a handball-match. "Frisch Auf! Göppingen" currently plays in the German first handball-division. People there are pretty relaxed and friendly I would say.

Typical german dinner is e.g. Chees noodles (http://www.essen-und-trinken.de/uploads/...

pancakes, swabian pasta squares (http://www.carola-epple.de/webbilder/mau... and for sure other stuff like pizza, hamburger and so on.

Stuttgart is 35km away from Uhingen. It's the capital of the state Baden-Würrtemberg and has a pop. of about 590,000 inh.. There is also an airport, railway main station, and a subway-network. With that you can go to other cities in the region. E.G. Ludwigsburg with its own BB team "ENBW Ludwigsburg" or other cities.

In Stuttgart you can do whatever you want. Go shopping, sightseeing, or visit clubs and discos. Life is pretty cool, safe and pretty fine ;)
