  1. You can't download directly to DVD, you'll have to go via a PC. You'll need to capture the video via firewire - if your PC hasn't already got one you'll need to install a firewire card. They're cheap, easy to install and readily available. You'll also need a firewire cable.

Once everything's connected you can capture the video with Windows Movie Maker and then write it to DVD using DVD Flick.

Keep in mind that most of your video is going to be either badly shot or just pointless (it seems to be a law of nature!) so it's going to be improved beyond all recognition if you take some time to edit it.  If you save the edited video as DV-AVI before you put it through DVD Flick you'll keep the quality as high as possible.

  2. If you have a mini dv (cassette) camcorder….

Your dv camcorder needs a firewire connection (ieee 1394) in order to download video, your PC probably did not come with a firewire port, so you will have to buy one and install it, since most computers (except possibly brand new) don't come with a firewire port, your camcorder did not come with a firewire cord so you have to purchase a cord too. Your camcorder did come with a USB cord and that is used for downloading stills from your camcorder. Make sure your camera is in playback mode. Open your editing program is open capture/import the video and edit, then burn to a DVD.

The fine print in your manual makes reference to firewire (ieee 1394) connection.
