  1. Ok, first you have to understand the circadian rhythm of the body. One of the most important is the temp cycle. The body will rise (36.9 `C) during the day (15:30) an d cool  at night with the low (39.1`C) at 05:00 in the morning. As the body cools a person becomes tired and when it starts heating up you awaken. It takes you body +-1.5 days to adapt to every 15degrees (1 time zone) change in longitude at the equator. So traveling across 5 time zones would take about 7.5days. This would cause the body to be thrown out of cycle, the mind will say it should be night and time for bed but it would experience daylight. So basically your whole body is thrown out of its comfort zone.

  2. It's when you fly across more than one time zone and get your sleeping pattern all messed up.  Jets can out run the pace that a day takes to progress, so if you're flying from N.Y. at 8 a.m. and your destination is L.A. it may only take less than two hours to get there.  So if that's the case, by the time you land in L.A. it is 7 a.m. in that time zone.  Therefore you've added another three hours(if you stayed awake on the flight) to your day if you're going to go to sleep at the same time you usually do.  That makes it harder on your body.

  3. Being extremely tired after traveling through several time zones.

  4. go with the 2nd answer:)
