I think it means that love for our country, love for our people, love for the "world" we were born into makes us do crazy things because the last thing we want is for someone else to hurt that "world."

Basically it means to love the world means to love the 'ups and downs' of it too.  In other words, you take it for what it is, the good and the bad parts about it.

my take:

if you love the world..you love it as a whole..including the evils..so its kind of like youre promoting evil if you accept that there is evil instead of changing
