Can someoe give me a summary of the whole Watergate scandal???

Question

Ive heard about about the Watergate scandal before but I dont specifically know what it is. All I know is that it had somthing to do with Nixon and that theres 18 minutes of video missing and stuff....

Im probably going to do a report on it so...

There is an excellent account in David Gergen's book "Eyewitness to Power."  Gergen, now a commentator on CNN, was a low level staffer in Nixon's White House, but the timeline's events, and the sense of betrayel on the part of a loyal staffer, are excellent.  (He was also on Clinton's staff, and was also betrayed by that president's lies, all events recounted in the same tome.)

In a nut shell- Nixon had republican operatives break into the democratic headquarters to steal information. He also had (dirty tricks) squad that would put out false information and spread false rumors on their democratic opposition..But what got him in trouble was during the investigation he lied about having any knowledge of it. He was forced to resign after an impeachment hearing.
