I have a duck egg from my female duck that passed away. Her mate is so upset. I wanted to have an offspring from her. I got the only egg she layed b4 her death. I have been incubating it 4 8 days now. I think something isnt right

Its the normal size. Inside the egg is an airsac. There is also 2 lil figures I see in the egg. The figures or embryo I dont know what it could be is big as a pencil eraser top. Its a peanut shape but smaller with 2 veins or something ther hanging on it. Both look the same. Non of my eggs ever had this b4. Its day 8 and the figures are the size of eraser top 2 a pensil. Shouldnt they be bigger? They are an inch apart from 1another. I dont know if there is 2 embryos or dead or somthing. I thought I saw a heartbeat a coupke days ago.

Could this be 2 embryos in the egg, can 1 live?

What caused this? (The temp is beteen 98-100, I hae plenty of H2O in the water rings, and turn em 3 X a day)

How do you knwo if its dead?

If its dead will it grow or not?

  1. First off 98-100 degrees is too cold to incubate a duck egg. Ducks need the temperature to be a steady 103 degrees. Anything cooler and they won't hatch right any warmer and they hatch too quick. It sounds like you have a egg with two embryos. They will not survive.  I would estimate that the odds are 100,000 - 1 that you will hatch that  egg out.

You last question is a doozy. Do you think it will grow if it is dead? You must have slept through science and biology class? I am not going to answer that last question. I am going to let  you figure that one out by yourself.

  2. While i was taking care of a wild duck egg someone stole i used this website

    http://www.minkhollow.ca/HatchingProgram...

It has great reference pictures on what eggs should look like threw every stage of incubation!

It also tells you what the egg will look lke if it died.

Im not sure if two embreos can live in one egg.

In th last days of incubation i dont believe that the air sac would be able to keep each alive.

Not to mention if it is a normal sized egg both babies wouldent fit, obvious :/

Well good luck and im sorry to hear about your loss.
