Question:

Can someone analyze my launch angle and other stats?

I used a golf simulator today and wrote down each shot's total yardage, launch angle and ball speed, but I don't really know how to analyze the data. I know there are many other factors coming into play, but can someone look at my averages and let me know if if you see anything good or bad?

Driver:

yardage: 239

launch angle: 11 degrees

ball speed: 141 mph

3 iron:

yardage: 183

launch angle: 8 degrees

ball speed: 117

5 iron:

yardage: 169

launch angle: 9 degrees

ball speed: 110 mph

7 iron:

yardage: 159

launch angle: 12 degrees

ball speed: 100 mph

9 iron:

yardage: 128

launch angle: 21 degrees

ball speed: 87 mph

  1. List your clubhead speed and whether or not these were straight shots. There's not enough info to give you useful advice.

If your clubhead speed is really fast and you're getting these results, then there is an issue.

  2. Your launch angles are low across the board. It looks like you've some swing issues. For example, there's no reason your 5 iron, which is about 25 degrees, should only be producing a 9 degree launch angle. That's ridiculously low. I'd suggest getting some lessons to figure out your problem before looking for a new driver or anything.

  3. Mike,

Typically a launch monitor is only useful for fitting a driver...one shot really doesn't do much good for analysis. You should have a trained person there analyzing the results, you should also try to use the balls you normally use on the course when fitting yourself for a driver.

I'm not positive on this, I'm sure I'll get corrected if I'm wrong, but the optimum launch angle for a driver is 13 or 14 degrees, 141 is a decent ball speed....if you gave me these two numbers and told me to sell you a club, I'd get you into a 10.5 loft driver or greater. You're right on the edge as far as shaft flex for an 'on paper' perspective.....if you have a fast tempo swing you could probably use a stiff shaft...if it's slow...I'd try regular....

But you should get fit by a professional....that's the best way...

    Good Luck!
