Can someone answer this? 2 divided by 5/7?

Haven't done this type of math much lately.  Studied it real hard when I was in the 7th grade.  lol -- Does this sound right?

That would be 14/5. :)

all you have to do is: the thing your dividing by * the reciprocal (fraction flipped over) of the thing your dividing.  

In this case it would be:  2/1 * 7/5 = 14/5 = 2 4/5

I'm not sure why it works, but to divide by a fraction, you need to turn it upside down then multiply it with the other number.

In this case 2 divided by 5/7 would go to 2 TIMES 7/5

(remember that 2 is really 2/1 - we just don't write it this way, because 2/1=2)

you would then have:

(2/1) x (7/5)

(it's hard to make the fonts work but this is 'two over one' - or 'two divided by one' times 'seven over five' or 'seven divided by five')

When multiplying fractions, you multiply the top two numbers, and put the result on top (the numerators). Then multiply the bottom two numbers and put it on the bottom (the denominators).

Here you would have

2 x 7 = 14 on top

and 1 x 5 on bottom

making 14/5

This may be simplified to 2 4/5 (two and 4 fifths)

(14 divided by 5 = 2 with a remainder of 4). If the teacher would like it in decimals then it would be 2.8.

14/5 x 5/7 = 2, so 2 / 5/7 = 14/5

the easiest way to do this is to say 1/(5/7) = 7/5, so 2 divided by it is twice as much.

another equally good way: 2 = 14/7, 14/7 / 5/7 = 14/5 because you are now dividing like terms (same as 5 ones divided by 2 ones = 5/2, 14 sevenths divided by 5 sevenths = 14/5)

2 divided by 5/7 is the same as 2 multiplied by 7/5 which is 14/5 which is equal to 2 4/5 or 2.8
