Someone I know just got his employment authorization card, and his friend told him that he could now go and try to get a social security number with it. Is this true?

He doesn't have a green card yet, and is an immigrant.

  2. Yes, bring EAD and Passport or any other government issued picture ID.

  3. Yes, once you have the EAD, you can apply for an SSN.  Once you have that, you can start looking for a job.

  4. yes, just take it w/ his documents showing he is here legally like passport visa etc

  5. Yes he can get a social security card now. The Employment Authorization Document is just that. Employment authorization. In order to work he would need to pay taxes, and need a Social Security Number. He will need to take his passport and his EAD card to the Social Security Office and file for one.
