Can someone be depressed but not obviously gloomy, and sad, even to themselves?

  1. yes definitely, They can show signs that are the opposite, they can appear to be happy, over compensating for the lack of happiness that they have. It is very careful to know if someone is depressed or not, maybe taking them to a professional would be the right thing to do, if you are worried.


  2. someone can be depressed without any outward signs but they can't be depressed without any inward signs.

  3. Many great comics suffer/ed from depression. I think it can be covered to the outside world to a degree (think Owen wilson), but I don't know about the inside. If one didn't feel sad (dull, flat, low, etc), how would it be interpreted as depression?
