My husband while we were dating burned his ex-wives clothes and took pictures of it (then emailed them to her--she cheated on him).  She turned the pictures over to the cops and the cops laughed at her and said "sorry, ma'am...you should have taken your assets with you when you left."

Just so you know this is america and people can call the cops on you for anything they want to. However, its up to the police as to what they do about it...  You shouldnt be playing with fire anyway

Lots of good advice given, but I will add that nothing will happen if it was abandoned property.  Cops have a lot of discretion on how to handle a complaint, so what they do will depend on the the details of the shirt burning.

If they're not wearing it: Destruction of property, not to mention other regulations regarding large, open flames in some cases.

If they are wearing it: Possibly assault with a deadly weapon or attempted murder, depending on how it is done.
