Hypermiling is supposed to be a great way to save fuel but it is hard to figure out what it really is, since it isn't something tangible it seems. Any ideas?

  1. http://www.hypermiling.com

  2. I didn't know it had a name.  I am working on making it tangible with the product I am designing.  So I'd better get my butt in gear, there is obviously a market for it if the concept already has a name  ;-).

Hypermiling basically means keep your car tuned and don't drive aggressively, don't drive during rush hour, don't idle your car, etc etc.  In short, in order to maximize the MILES per gallon you have to keep MOVING at the most efficient speed.  So you develop driving habits to do that.  My product helps you to develop AND maintain those habits.

To quote an article on hypermiling "It's not easy, though. For most people, driving this way will feel, to say the least, awkward. When I tried ... it was difficult to maintain this disciplined approach without consistent effort. The minute I let my concentration slip -- Zoom! -- off I'd go again gas-wasting, just like I usually do."

Not only that, it helps you reduce the overall operating cost, which is just as important as fuel consumption to the health of your pocketbook.  Look for it on the market soon (I hope) and remember where you heard of it first. ;-)  It won't be cheap, but it WILL pay for itself.
