  1. it is a beautiful area but it depends also on your age and the reason of your stay in rome. I mean Celio is close to the colosseum, close to villa celimontana, to circo massimo etc etc but at the same time the underground is not that close and at night it is quiet. So if you are looking for night life there are better areas! Anyway hope you will enjoy your stay in the most beautiful city in the world!!!!

  2. not the best area

  3. My favourite hotel in Rome is Hotel Dolomiti http://www.hotel-dolomiti.it/eng/camere_...  I have stayed there probably about 10 times now and there are many reasons why I like it.  It's extremely clean and the rooms are comfortable and quite airy - Italian hotels are not particularly roomy, you have to pay a h**l of a lot to get a hotel that resembles the big international type of thing you have in the States or other parts of Europe.  Buildings in Italy are old with windy staircases and never look very well cared for from the outside.  Hotel Dolomiti actually has a modern lift! This hotel is the nicest place I've stayed in Italy.  It's a family run place and I found them to be incredibly friendly and helpful. The breakfast is very good considering that Italian hotels don't often provide much of a breakfast.  It is decidedly Italian though - croissants, pastries, cappuccino or espresso, toast and jam, yoghurt, juices, fruit.

It's not that far from Termini train station but it's in an area that's a good bit safer and it's right beside a metro stop so you can go anywhere else in  the city you need to very very easily.  I found it very handy because it means that you arrive at Termini, you can dump your stuff and get settled in almost immediately and then it's off to see the rest of the city.

If you've already booked somewhere round the colosseum then keep this place in mind for the future :-)

As for that area, I don't think you have anything to worry about, you're about as central as you can get and the Colosseum is beautiful when it's all lit up at night.
