Can someone dies because of insect bites in finger?

someone told me in my local area in new jersey a woman was shopping for some vegetables.Not sure if an insect in that vegetable were hiding or outside has bite her in her finger. when she finished shopping in order to relieve pain she put her finger in her mouth and right after that she died instantly.what kind of insect that can kill someone like this?

If not so how about a spider?

It's also said that if young get stung by many bees it could also be fatal but certainly bees are not a possibility in this case.
