  1. ATP is a chemical compound nucleotide in living organisms that releases energy for cellular reactions when it converts to ADP. Full form:adenosine triphosphate

    hmm.... The ATP acts as the "energy currency" of the cell, transferring free energy derived from substances of higher energy potential to those of lower energy potential.

    You have 3 major sources of ATPs taking part in energy conservation or energy capture:

    1. Oxidative phosphorylation - takes place in the mitochondria

    2. Glycolysis - from glucose metabolism

    3. Citric acid cycle also called Krebs cycle - it is the final common pathway for oxidation of carbohydrates, fats and protein

    ATP = energy which gives the body the strength to function normally.  

  3. Further to above, ATP releases energy when broken down to ADP by hydrolysis.  Hope this helps!
