  1. I really don't know the answer to your question. What I do know is that insurance is a big SCAM. While you can't get by legally without it you have to just about be a lawyer to understand all the fine print that goes along with your or your mom's policy. Good luck figuring all that out.

  2. There is a lot of useful and intresting information here to help answer your quetion.

  3. If there is more than one licensed driver living  in the household and more than one vehicle, the insurance company assigns one of the vehicles to a driver other than the policy holder. In your mothers case, if there were 4 drivers and 4 vehicles, each vehicle would have a driver assigned to it. However, any licensed driver named on the policy may drive any of the vehicles. Further information (that you didn't ask for) ha ha! Any licensed driver not living in the household of the insured, can, with the insureds permission, drive any of the insureds vehicles and does not need to be named on the policy.

  4. hey, i am a licence issuer. You need to say what country and state you're dealing with for this one.

There are different laws in each province.

  5. Insurance carriers ask the "insured" who drives what. Then, through a process called "rating," the insurer figures up the premium based on those answers, the specific vehicle driven "by specific driver" and the vehicle "insurance symbols" and so forth. Symbols, by the way, are the insurance industry's way of "assigning" a risk or loss factor to specific cars and trucks. For example, high-end imports such as Mercedes, SAAB, and Lexus all have higher numerical symbols mainly due to higher repair parts prices. Sports cars, such as Corvette, Mustang GT, and similar cars have high symbols also due to accident data on crash frequency, injury severity, etc. If your brother is truly an "occasional driver" than Mom should speak with her agent to see if this can be factored into her policy for a lower overall premium.

When I lived with my parents they had three cars.  The insurance company automatically placed me as the primary on one of the vehicles.  They explained that as long as long as the number of vehicles is greater than or equal to the number of drivers, each person would have to be a primary.  I can't tell you if that was the correct way to handle it, but that's what they did.

  7. 1. is it possible to make my brother into an occasional driver on this 4th vehicle or must he be a primary on one them? If he must be a primary on one then why?
