I didnt understand when my teacher told us about it. Actually, I dont recall anything about her even talking about it. I've got a worksheet obviously, but I dont want to cheat (goes against my moral code) so can someone just explain it to me? Is it a theory? I have a feeling that it has something to do with evolution somehow.

Thanks to all.

  1. homeostasis is the ability to keep internal conditions the same. think of it as your body temperature, the normal temp. is around 98 degrees. if it gets any higher, you will sweat, any lower you will shiver. this is due to homeostasis. your body will do whatever it can to try to stay 98 degrees.

  2. homeostasis is basically maintaining an equilibrium

one example is human body temperature which is 36 degrees Celsius. (don't know in Fahrenheit I'm from Canada sorry)

so basically if your environment is cold your body would detect changes and your hypothalamus would detect it and signal your thyroid gland to increase your metabolism. also if your are too hot then your body would start to perspire and signal a thirst response

  3. The perfect balance of all systems in the body.

this has nothing to do with evolution---it is regarding the bodily functions from cell level---the endocrine system---cardio-  renal---pulmonary---all functions working in harmony.

when one is ailing we do what we can to achieve homeostasis once again.

  4. Homeostasis is how the body keeps at a constant temperature(or something like that).I remembered it by thinking 'home'eostasis, like thinking of how a home keeps you warms when it's cold out and cool when it's hot out

  5. Homeostasis is an organism maintaining a stable internal environment in response to changing external conditions. For example, when you get cold you shiver to produce more body heat. Or when you get hot, you start to sweat in order to cool off.
